Jackrabbit-I assume you went to SDSU? My wife is also from SD. We will be moving to Philly early summer and she will be doing a clinical rotation at CHOP(children's hospital of philly), which is in University City area. Not sure where we'll be living yet.

Good luck!

Yes, I do go to SDSU! It's kind of funny, my friend who works in the Department of Residential life had a via phone interview with a school in Philly for an internship! So, it looks like the whole college could be going to Philly this summer haha

Well, Good Luck with your move and everything. I hope things go smoothly for you guys, best wishes!

FWIW. Not surpisingly University City in the summer is pretty quiet as all the Penn/Drexel/Univ of Sciences students(50,000) vacate the city. You might find Center City(across the Schuylkill River from U City) a more exciting place to stay in the summer months.

Good luck.

That's exactly why I spend a lot more time in U. City during the summer.

I don't check this too often, but I wanted some opinions. Thanks!

I probably would not bring a car. There is not much parking in that area and you are close to mass transit.

That area is in between Center city and W. Philly. Center city is good but W. Philly has crime. Keep your head down.

University City is a section of West Philadelphia.

More precisely it is an expanding "Special Services District" in West Philly. It is funded by the Universities and local businesses.

When you say keep your head down, is it really that bad? I've spent lots of time in cities such as Seattle, Denver, and Minneapolis, and the only bad encounter I had was Denver...mostly because I was really young and I probably was a little too friendly by waving or saying Hi on the street, is that what you are saying? I'm hoping whoever I'm working with me can also give me some pointers. I don't want to stay locked up in my apartment or what not all summer. Thank you for the advice though, it's something that is very appreciated.

It is not that bad but it is a little bad. I would not have any problem attending a University City college.

I love University City. I have never had a problem there. I think the Penn campus is one of the most beautiful areas of the city. The problem with that area is the proximity to W. Philly. The criminals from W. Philly drift into UC and occasionally break the law.
