Hello we are a young family looking to rent in the price range of around $700-820/ month. We love lively cities that are really artsy and have plenty of entertainment. Also we are looking for a safer area that is decent. It DOESN'T have to be near Philly. We are looking into any place that fits into those categories and is which is preferably closer to NY.

For that kind of money you may want to look into South Carolina.

What kind of space are you looking for with those kinds of funds? Generally speaking, that might rate you a 1BR apt around Philly, unless you can somehow arrange a deal with a private owner that doesn't need market rates.

Areas in the Northeastern Pennsylvania like the Lehigh Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre may be worth looking into. While I don't know for certain whether you can find something in your range, your chances are certainly much higher there. At the very least, you would be within a couple hours' drive of both Philly and NYC. Check out the sub-forums of NE Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley for more ideas.
