We're re-locating to the area from RI .. not sure exactly where, but likely Bucks County. Are there any ponds/lakes/river/stream swimming areas? My family really enjoys swimming in natural settings and all I can seem to find are pools. Thanks for your help!

River Country 2008:delaware river tubing,at it's best for 40 years! (http://www.rivercountry.net/august/index.html - broken link)
Bucks County has a couple river tubing outfitters above Washington Crossing - went as a kid it was fun - most of the water was walkable as well for someone 5 ft or taller - towards the end, it got a little deeper

Thanks! Looks like the closest swim hole is about an hour. Tubing is fun, but I've got little little guys who aren't quite ready for that yet. I wonder why none of the freshwater bodies in the area allow swimming. Many have onsite pools, but I'd rather just swim in the lake!

mainly because:
1 - geese habitate the area so the water isn't clean
2 - if it is not on state/municiple owned land, it is a liability for a private owner to open it up
3 - might be part of the drinking supply

The nice thing is that on a weekday, you are pretty much 1 to 1.5 hours from one of the towns along the Jersey shore if you want the natural swimming experience

Hmm.... that makes sense. But, growing up in the Poconos, there were plenty of lake/pond beaches around. I wonder what the difference is?

I suspect we will go the shore often. Currently we live in, 10 minutes from a nice, quiet beach... We'll have to get used to the Jersey Shore crowds!

Check out the Pennsylvania State Park Website Welcome to Pennsylvania State Parks - PA DCNR
I believe there are some in the area that have ponds or lakes.

Thanks! Lots of nice parks, but none seem to allow swimming (besides pools).

Penn Warner Lake in Morrisville. You do have to pay a membership fee though.

I like Strathmere for the beach...nice quiet town between Ocean City and Sea Isle City - all private residences along the beach but the beach is open access - no beach tags required but there are no lifeguards either - but there are no crowds
