I am curious to know how long a drive this would be. There are construction zones in various parts, but I'd like to know approx. how many stop lights there are along this stretch. Besides shopping districts near Quakertown and Montgomeryville, is the drive generally free-flowing, esp. on a weekend?

I know the TPK would be a much more direct drive, but I want to know how much longer it would take... toll-free .

I've never once been in a traffic jam on 309. So yeah I'd say ithe traffic is free flowing.

I go to Montgomeryville (Costco and Trader Joe's!) about once a month from Coopersburg and it takes me about 40 - 45 minutes. I take the back roads from Coopersburg down to Rt. 663 in Q-town and then hop onto 309.

What town on PA 73 are you looking to go to? You can get from Coopersburg to PA 73 in Gilbertsville in about 25 minutes with about 10 lights along the way.

Most of that drive shouldn't be too bad, especially on the weekends. During the week at rush hour, you can run into a bit of traffic through Quakertown. However, the area where you can really run into traffic at rush hour is 309 through the Hatfield area. There is a series of lights there that can back the traffic up pretty good. It seems to be worse going northbound. Again, this is only during rush hour.

I'm guessing OP is talking about going from Coopersburg to the 309/73 interchange in Flourtown.

Yes, as I intend to end up on Cottman Ave. in the city to get my cheesesteak before Phillies games this coming season.

I am gonna take this route to see for myself. The TPK raised their tolls again and I'm looking at alternate routes to get to Philly. LV to Fort Washington is a little over 3 bucks each way; not too bad, but still...

Also, I notice that if I get off at the Lansdale exit, it is a straight shot down Sumneytown Pike to 309. How's that stretch? Coming home from Philly once, I took 309 North to 63 and ended up going right through Lansdale...

Allentown Rd. looks like an alternative to 309... can you make good time on this road and avoid many lights and traffic?

After years of driving all the down 476 to the Surekill Expry just to get on Roosevelt Blvd. to head to the Northeast, I just got sick of all that gridlock. I'm looking at alternate routes from the northern 'burbs to NE Philly.

The most direct, hi-speed, way would be to take the NE Ext. to 276 E and get off at Ft. Washington and proceed from there. But the tolls do add up after a while and this summer I'd like to take a more scenic route (Bucks Co. is a terrific area to drive through).

I'm also going to look at taking the RR from Lansdale into the city as well (to avoid the parking fees at the Stadium).

Allentown road is fun to drive in daylight and good weather. It's a narrow, winding road through towns and hills. Not alot of lights but one lane each way.

My husband drives down to Philadelphia often for sports (season Eagle ticket holder) and about 3 times a month for band gigs and he always takes the turnpike. Time is money...

I think the Lansdale train is an excellent alternative and we have friends that do that to go to the Eagles games. Just make sure that you pay attention to the maximum amount of time allowed at the meters. They have three or four choices there - two hours, six hours, etc. It would be a pleasant drive going to the train station from Coopersburg on Allentown road to Lansdale in the daylight. I almost did that last weekend when I took the train into Lansdale with a friend but (as usual) we were in a hurry and just made the train. We allowed 30 minutes which was not quite enough time and we had to take the next train.
