Being from the city, it annoys me when I hear suburbanites talk about 'infiltration' from the city, and about how the city weighs down the entire area. First of all, these suburbs would not exist without the infrastructural support of these cities. You need them for their commuter trains, their utilities, their water treatment and more. And then there's the argument that suburbs have to pay for cities' indigent residents. If you look at the tax receipts of the cities, and compare them to the state budget, THE CITY'S COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY IS FUNDING THE REST OF THE STATE. Finally, the suburbanites seem not to care when urban residents work in their malls and build their homes, but will raise a huge stink if they dare stay afterhours. Every metropolitan region is going to have its poor, indigent people; that's just the way American socioeconomics goes. It's just our national strategy to not re-use our land, and to always pursue success further and further out (manifest destiny, anyone?). Inevitably, that's going to leave an impoverished cohort. Why should the cities bear all the burden of America's inequity?

don't turn this around to another 'skin color' thread, cause its not. Its how a person acts, not they color of their skin. No one ever said it had anything to do with whether your black, green or purple

Tone, there is so much more bad that happens in Philly then anyone will ever know. I have so many friends who are cops in the city, and the stories they tell us would curl your hair. I can tell you personally that I had 2 co workers who were murdered in the city and now ONE word ever made the paper or news.

in fact here is your assignment.. Take a long walk down Frankford ave under the El... and observe. Then drive to newtown and take a long walk down state street... and observe. Then report back here at your findings and you will then see the difference.

But I know you will not. Moderator cut
