Like I said, I hope I'm wrong but one thing that I've learned is there is nothing typical or average about our weather. lol
I always exaggerate about unpleasant things, that way I'm usually wrong and it's a pleasant surprise.

I don't. This past tour in Iraq, I can't even count how many haboob's we had. The first one, was last June, about a week before I went to the promotion board, and it was so thick, you literally could not see a foot in front of you. Cars were running into T barriers because they could not see, people were getting sick from inhaling the dust. I have some pictures somewhere of it all. It lasted 6 days. One good thing was it cooled everything off pretty good. It stayed in the 90's all week instead of in the 120's.

This wasn't just the summer. They kept happening non stop all year long. We were taking off from where we were based at, and could see it coming under NVG's, we called tower I don't know how many times to tell them our Pirep (Pilot Report) and they kept denying it saying we have unrestriced visibility, the pilot said **** it, and we broke every rule trying to get back to parking before it hit. Just as we landed the dust hit, and we were down for 4 days because the dust would not settle.

In September a National Guard blackhawk went down just inside the wire at Balad Air Base. All but 1 person lived. This crash was due to the pilot wanting to get home.

This past January, we had one come in, followed by rain though, and walking to work at 12am, this was the nastiest day of my tour. I have never seen it rain mud until this past tour.

Yeah. Big jump from yesterday's forecast! This could be it - especially for the SE valley people.

It is definitely not raining as much as 60 years ago. Most of the summer, at Coronado pool, we would be ordered out of the water all the time because of rain and lightening. I would stand with my grandfather and father in the fields as they irrigated and my dad would start counting when he heard lightning and then tell me how far away it was.

Wow, Desert, I wouldn't want a Haboob either if I had been through all that. It must be harder coming home from that and being in AZ. More crap to remind you of it. I'm grateful for you soldiers though, always glad you've got my back that's for sure!
