The title of my thread isnt negative. I live in Tempe and am glad the lake is there. I wrote that cuz at the time it have just exploded and was draining. I knew they were going to fix it, and Im glad for it.

That pretty much sums it up.

Although Tempe Town Lake is unique to Tempe, AZ, the entirety of American chain store and chain restaurant culture is not. Every other nice Phoenix suburb is awash in chain stores and restaurants, but none of them have recreation-worthy lakes. The same thing can be found in any other major metropolitan area across the country.

For the life of me I just cant understand whey people have this hate for "chain" stores. Ive been down on Mill a few times and Ive seen chains, and Ive seen mom and pop stores. Who cares if some of the stores are also in other places. Its almost like when people like a band until they get famous. Like its cool if only i know about it. Get over yourself, the world has changed and things that were once only in certain parts of the country are now everywhere. I remember when I was young and I visited California and bought Van's shoes and took them back to the midwest. I was so cool to be the only one with them. Times have changed and Im not 14 any longer, so embrace all the options you have. Who cares if there is a Hooters and Starbucks on Mill. Tempe is still cool and the lake is awesome.

Me neither! Obviously a lot of people like chain stores (or else they wouldn't be in business... in multiple locations! ). But some make them out to be the evil villains... or, at least, as if they have cooties....

Sailing and crew are not entertainment worthy? A lot of those lakes allow sailing. Tempe Town lake was progressing toward allowing swimming and boating but it needed time for it to be ecologically safe to do so. The intention is for it to be in fact a recreation worthy lake.

Phoenix has BOTH chain stores and unique original restaurants. The problem is we have uneducated forum members who falsely claim we only have chains when that is far from the truth. They don't truly know the Valley and base their comments on what they visibly see driving home on the 101 or some other major street. Due to my previous lifestyle, I was eating out every day and spending nearly $1000 per month eating out. I've been everywhere and there are over 100 restaurants (non-chain) that I haven't been to in the Valley. Before you ASSume all we have is chains, go to www.Yelp.com/Phoenix (http://www.Yelp.com/Phoenix - broken link) and do some research and you will discover there are a lot of non-chains here you've never heard of. And yes, many of these original places are in the suburbs. Take for example Cork which is located in Ocotillo. That is a brilliant restaurant. Yes, it's in a strip mall and unfortunately your typical citydata Phoenix forum moron will assume it's a chain because it's in a strip mall. Downtown Chandler is full of original restaurants. Phoenix is the 5th largest city and a consumer driven market so of course we have lots of chains but that doesn't mean we are devoid of unique places. If people would get off their lazy butt and do some research, they would realize there is a lot of original restaurants and stores in the Valley but of course it's much easier to form opinions based on shallow information.

Agreed! If people are truly concerned about chains and want to find original places, they can go to Phoenix Restaurants, Dentists, Bars, Beauty Salons, Doctors and the cover page has newly added ORIGINAL restaurants and stores DAILY! People on this forum are generally uneducated about the Valley so when I read comments like that, it doesn't surprise me.

$1,000/mo just on eating out?

Anyways, I liked the lake. So what if it's a man made lake in the desert, it was very pretty and a nice place to hang out and take pictures....I hope they do get it filled soon.
I just felt bad for all those fish gasping for breath and slowly dying .
