We have 2 kids in elementary school and would live in an apartment. Is taking a $13/hr job ok in this area?

Does your spouse plan to work also, and if so, will you have free childcare with a trusted relative? I can't imagine how difficult it would be to raise two children in our area on $13 an hour, though I know people do it. I wish you the very best, but it sounds like a really tough situation.

I would think you'd need a second source of income....

From what I see, Fountain Hills is one of the places for the ultra rich in the valley. If you were working in this place I would make sure you could live in somewhere like east mesa or one of the other outlining areas near fountain hills.

there are many $1M+ houses out in FH, but there are several apartment complexes in the older part of FH near the fountain.....it's not at all only for the ultra-rich.....

$13/hr isn't at all horrible if you budget and live frugally...if there's another income, that could help a lot, especially with kids....

Agreed. My only caution is that while you might be able to eke out a life with two children on $13 an hour, there's absolutely no wiggle room for health insurance or car maintenance and similar events. As a parent, those kids need to be protected, and if that means not moving to FH for a $13 an hour job, then that's what needs to be done. Waaaay different when you're single.

I agree with the East Mesa suggestion. Just zip down the Beeline home. You will probably be able to rent something bigger and more afordable in E Mesa opposed to Fountain Hills.

And, if you don't take the job, please let me know where it is-- we just moved to FH and my wife would love to find a job for $13 an hour!
