Left Phoenix right before everything fell apart in 2005 so I am wondering what the job market is like for sales and marketing positions in the Phoenix area. I was in sales in Phoenix for over 10 years and it was a great place to be a sales rep. Lots of businesses to call on, Phoenix was a hub for manufacturing, warehousing and construction so it was easy to get products to sell and deliver. If you wanted to sell for a national or regional company, chances were that they had an office in Phoenix to work out of. My last position was as a broker and specialized in various business supplies. It was great, could work out of my house, set my own hours and pick & choose my clients.

If I go back to Phoenix in the next 18 months what kind of market for selling am I looking at? Any industries that are growing that I should look at, willing to start in a new industry if I need to.

I would think you could expect less sales of hard tangible goods, more sales in intangible service based products. Personally I have sold both and feel they take different sales techniques, but that is not to say you cannot master both. Obviously, as businesses have struggles or closed, you could expect less opportunity for B2B sales. But it shifts, too. If you can do education sales, that is a really hot industry and you can make TONS of money here doing that... I am talking easily over $60K a year and the really good ones are making over $100. I did this for a while and was a Manager so I know for a fact what my folks were making. Caution: they are HARD CORE sales and will work you like a dog. But if you like that kind of environment you can make a killing right now.

I am assuming education sales is trying to convince people to take classes and financial aid at the many colleges and tech schools around Phoenix?

Trying to think out of the box and find an industry that sells to retiring baby boomers. Anyone know anything about sales and marketing jobs for senior living communities, assisted living centers or hospices?
