April is a beautiful time in Phoenix. Why don't you visit again in July to make sure you really like it. I understand as I'm in Chicago now and this nasty wind and cold temps is making me long for the Desert.

I've lived in both places for a period of time and although Chicago Winters can be brutal, a Phoenix Summer can also be as well.

Does that give you some flexibilty as to where you'll be assigned? Do you know where you will be assigned?

God bless ya, but you really must visit during the summer before you can make an informed decision. Summers here are unlike anything you've likely experienced. Yes, there are workarounds and ways to mitigate the discomfort (a/c 24/7 for months on end, etc.), but you need to come and decide in person. Reading about it really won't prepare you. On the other hand, April is fabulous, so no wonder it was so appealing to you! Come on back and check us out next summer.

Since I have been to Chicago, I will admit Phoenix is a nicer place than there. I absolutely hate Phoenix, but the summers are cake compared to the hell you are dealing with regarding the winters. They are not even comparable. Overall, you would be happier in Phoenix than Chicago as long as you can transfer your jobs. The cost of living is much lower to boot.

As so many say here - you dont have to shovel heat!

As for where - you really should figure out where you will be assigned....this is a BIG place...commute vs cost will be your highest priorities to sort out.
