On a related note, has anyone eve seen snow on Camelback Mountain? It's peak is at 2706 ft and I would think it would get some here and there but I've never seen it with snow on the peak.
The afternoon forecast discussion on NWS has snow level dropping to 2000 feet on Thursday night! Maybe.

Forecasts are just getting colder with snow levels now down to 1000 feet. It could be very bad for the landscaping. For those new to the area, this one is going to be about as cold as the one in 2007 that devastated everyone's plants. You need to be about covering the plants before Thursday/Friday night with blankets, sheets, and such. Even that is not going to stop some damage, but it may keep them from getting killed by the frost. This is especially important in the suburban areas where it will cool down more than closer in.

If you have some Christmas lights handy, those will help keep shrubs warm, go ahead and cover them as well, though. I've saved tender bedding plants by having the little Christmas lights just laying around them on the ground.

Weather underground has the hourly forecasts pretty far out, it shows 31 degrees by 11:00 pm on New Years Eve.

We were throwing around the idea of going to Mill Ave for NYE, that ain't gonna happen.

Good call. Especially plants that are by themselves, when they are clumped or under trees they tend to do a little better, but that lone plant farther out in the yard is the one that will really look jacked if you don't cover it.

Be interesting by this time next week, a lot of people will have ficus trees that are no longer beautiful green lollipops, more like frost damaged fudgesicles.

In the last big frost, my neighbor lost 3 large ficus trees that were the centerpiece of his backyard landscaping. They turned all brown and died to the stumps. It is hard to protect the larger trees.

Our smaller stuff took a real beating but over the last couple years have come back and hundreds of the HOA landscape plants died. I think they even justified a rate increase based on plant replacement. It got down to 16 degrees in Estrella where I live.

I have a feeling the crowd will be more than a little smaller this year.

Drink plenty of "anti-freeze".
