I would advise against this. An Andy Taylor, Sheriff Joe is not.

Where exactly would you live at Westgate to be able to walk to the bars there? Same with Old Town. Maybe people have different ideas of what "walking distance" is but for me, it's a 1/4 mile...maybe 1/2 mile at most and that's stretching it, especially if you've been drinking.

I would say either downtown or some place that is along the light rail so you can use that in conjunction with walking.
I think there is more action (especially weekends) in Westgate than downtown and restaurants as well as a multi-screen movie theater. As already mentioned, there are brand new apartments buildings within easy staggering distance.

I second Old Town. I've been thinking about moving up that area myself. Zipps, Patty's, Gilligan's, Coach House, The Lodge, etc are solid.

Can anyone recommend apartments in that area?

Downtown Scottsdale has more bars and more choices. They even have the the Rusty Spur wher you can sit in a saddle (bar stool) and not have to worry about falling off.

I would suggest the Kierland Commons area in North Scottsdale. Lots of apartment/condo rentals and lots of restaurant/bars within walking distance.

You really think so? Westgate can't even hold a stick to the number of bars/restaurants/entertainment places compared to downtown.

Looking at Westgates website right now, they have a total of 14 restaurants/bars/coffee...and out of those, quite a few are just small stuff like a Rib Shack and sandwich place.

Downtown Phenix, on the other hand, has 27 bars alone...and close to 100 restaurants/coffee/bars in total. Plus you have other entertainment options like bowling at Lucky Strike...the upcoming Stand Up Live comedy club...and yes downtown has it's own multi-screen theatre as well, and it's bigger than Westgate's.

I live near the Indian School Light Rail. Some may consider it Downtown, but it is actually Mid-town. Housing prices are all over the map. Plenty of bars, and I noticed 2 Hippie Chicks' Magic Mushroom Burger does Burger, fries, drink for 5 bucks, and the strip club around the corner does 5 dollar prime rib dinner on Thursdays for 5 bucks, also.

Westgate is a good option. It would be a real urban feel without the downtown problems.

You are right at the Football and Hockey venues. You would be a quick drive to all the west side spring training (Padres, Mariners, Ranger, Royals, Brewers, Dodgers, Whitesox, Indians, and Reds).

Parkwest and Arrowhead shopping-dining-bar areas are close. Easy cab ride away.

Just bars - sports bars - clubs

Highlights of Westgate
CALICO JACK'S CANTINA
GORDON BIERSCH
MARGARITAVILLE
MCFADDEN'S
SADDLE RANCH
THE SHOUT HOUSE
YARDHOUSE (Can't beat over 100 beers on tap)

Highlights of Arrowhead Area -- Also a great option to live at
Salty Senoritas
Tilted Kilt
Fox and Hound
Hooters
McDuffy's
The Moon
Elephant Bar
Skye
Arriba
Rockbottom Brewery

Highlights of Park West
Blu Burger Grille (good tap selection)
Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
Sandbar Mexican Grill
Fair Oaks Cigar
Grimaldi's Pizzeria

I like Tempe and the nightlife offered in the Mill district but I think one can mingle in pretty good there if you're still rather young but not college-age. Maybe the West Valley would be better for the older people looking for good bar scenes.
