Hi. I am considering a move to the greater Phoenix metro area and outlying areas. I am coming from a wet, green area. Gardening and growing my own food to some extent is important to me as I think it is healthier to get one's food that way. Nothing you can buy tastes as good as something you just picked from your own garden. Plus just heard food is going up yet again. So am wondering what foods can be grown in your area, and when. Thanks alot.

Here's a pretty comprehensive list of what to grow and when to grow it here in Phoenix. Phoenix Gardening Calendar

I have yet to finally spend some time on setting up a vegetable garden here, but a good friend of mine (whom I actually met on this board when she used to post - ArizonaGirl02) recently blogged on what she is growing. We're frequently invited for dinner and I can attest that she has delicious success. She lives just a few minutes away with the same backyard orientation, so I'm looking forward to finally using her and her husband's tips.
