The feedback on this board has been great, both pro and con. I am interested in the what people like best and least about Phoenix. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Worst
Phoenix is on the other side of the US border
Needs more water resouces like an Ocean, lakes, etc.
Too many serial killers.

Abundant, well-maintained hiking trails within city limits and nearby areas

Good blend of indoor and outdoor recreational, cultural, and entertainment opportunities

Growing economy with a strong record of new business startups

Top 3 Dislikes:

Summer heat

Uncontrolled sprawl at the edges of the metro area

A state legislature that is sometimes dominated by extremist elements out of touch with their largely moderate constituents

Like:
1. Only 1.5 hours from Sedona, one of my favorite places in the world.
2. Desert rain (when it happens), orange blossoms in the spring, sunsets.
3. Freeways are state-of-the-art, smooth pavement, well lit, a joy to drive.

Dislike:
1. Rentlessly hotter than hell for six months at a time. Dusty and polluted the other six months.
2. Mean, trashy, low life, drunk, unintelligent rednecks are swarming the place, plus wannabe gangbangers everywhere. Not everybody is like this, but so many are that it significantly lowers the quality of life here.
3. The city is mind-numbingly boring and unstimulating. I walk around downtown PHX all the time trying to find its hidden essence somewhere-- and leave disillusioned every time. It gets a D-. Scottsdale and Tempe get a B- at best-- they don't impress me that much. ASU, where I'm attending, has been a major disappointment.
