The TH I bought at the end of 2009, was then assessed at 95,000 is now at 23,500. I'm sure my 22,000 purchase had something to do with it.

My SFH that I paid 18,500 for is now assessed at 17,800. I smell some huge battles looming over tax rates.

So, it turns out that you are actually the cause of local budget woes. I was wondering who was responsible.

There is no way that the Board of Supervisors and other bodies can avoid raising the rates. Well, I guess that they could close their eyes and pretend.

Yes, Jack, us investors that came in and bought blighted, vacant properties are a threat to society.
But my 2010 taxes on that unit were 600 USD, and if they raise the rates to keep the revenue the same, that will mean a person with a 94,000 house will be paying 2400, and I just can't see that. Sun City will become the next Tunisia, with the possibility of some seniors setting themselves on fire in front of the Treasurer's Office.

The senior citizens in Arizona are some of the most selfish, spoiled, and coddled in the country. The property tax rates you quoted above are common back east, and I'm not aware of mass "senior-citizen-self-torchings" there. Those seniors could help themselves out quite a bit if they would elect "leaders" capable of anything except a quick-fix. Seniors love the "lock-'em-up-and-throw-away-the-key" mentality, but they don't want to pay for prisons. They want that free government healthcare (medicare) for themselves, but let the young die if they can't afford penicillin. They want lots of doctors, but allow the funding for our colleges to be chopped mercilessly. The "tea party" train wreck is coming... all aboard!
