I'm in the military and being reassigned to Luke Air Force Base. I have been doing some house hunting on-line and have been overwhelmed with the amount of houses/different towns. I have three children, ages 18, 10, and 6. What part of time should we be looking for houses. I don't mind a 30 minute commute.

Also I've been reading about the high electric rates in the summer months, what should I be looking for in a house to keep the costs kept down?

Thanks for any assistance.

Look for north/south exposure, and shade around the west windows, particularly. You can get on a managed payment plan which equalizes the payment over 12 months, avoids the sticker shock. You should be able to find a home in any one of several communities on the west side. Goodyear, north part of Avondale, northern parts of Peoria or Glendale, etc.

Excellent advice. I'll add to it: use those ceiling fans, but ONLY when someone is in the room. The moving air cools your skin, not the room, allowing you to keep the a/c set a little higher

Keep the blinds down during daylight in the summer, up in the daylight of the winter. Use cold water for clothes washing, and run the dishwasher only when full. If you have a plasma tv, sell it and buy a LCD.

High utilities will be offset by our real estate taxs - way below natuinal average. And, it feels better to know that you DO have some control over your utility consumption.

Welcome yo Arizona, sir. And thank you for your device.

There are quite a number of Luke personnel in Estrella which is a development in the south part of Goodyear. Surprise is a popular choice too as is the Verrado development in Buckeye.
