A 700 random sample survey conducted by the Behavior Research Center Inc., an independent research company, showed that 91% of Phoenix residents gave the city an 'A' for being a good place to live.

As some of us have been saying for years, the City Data Phoenix forum is NOT representative of the views of the majority of the residents in this city. Unfortunately, this place attracts a lot of bitter malcontents who wish to vent. Thankfully there is evidence to support what we've been saying.

And it makes a lot of sense. If most people were unhappy here, they would leave. People keep coming here because they learn that this is a great place to live.

Hmm, 700. Well, meets the N=100 criteria.

However, what possible investment could a local newspaper have in conducting such a study? And where were these random people selected? If in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley, I can see it and not so random. If on 12th and Jackson St, you'd get a different story.

One really needs to look at the study and how participants were selected (randomly) before making too much of this. Plus, as we all know, statistics can be bent and shaped.

Furthermore, the survey was conducted by a company based in Phoenix. It would have much more credence from an outside independent surveyor.

Well, I can only speak for myself.

My family and I are glad to live in the Phoenix metro area. My two oldest kids, having had to live in other states for the past few years, can't wait to get back to Phoenix.

With all due respect, this proves absolutely nothing. I bet the results would be similar in a horrible place like Fargo, North Dakota. Most people live where they want to live and therefore the overwhelming majority are going to say they are happy.

Well DUH!!!!!
Yes most people like where they live. Isn't that the obvious point? According to far too high of a percentage on here, Phoenix is the worst place on the planet. Hell on earth.
This just verifies that the vast majority do like living in the Phoenix area.
Makes perfect sense to me. If you didn't like where you lived, you'd move. Well, at least most people would.

Well, I'd have a for sale sign right now in my yard if it were not for the fact an addition is being built next door - not only an addition, but a "special" addition, which basically means a freak show.

I'm with Las Vegas Drunk on this one.

What on earth are you trying to say here? It sounds like you're trying to say that some sort of group home for the disabled is being built next to you and that you feel that it will adversely affect your property values.

[mod cut-- personal]

We're talking about statistics here and why or why not not Phoenix would have received an A. And if you don't believe me, reference post #3.
