My family recently returned from another wonderful AZ Vacation The weather was amazing - 80's and sunny. It was so nice to go for morning runs in shorts and t-shirts! We enjoyed hiking to the summit of Camelback and Piestewa Peak. Both were grand... Could not believe it when this much older gentleman went skipping by me on his way up Camelback. Some young girls heading down stated "Your going up again?" and I asked how many times he does this. He replied 3x daily! Wow! By the way, from atop of Camelback, we saw some AMAZING homes - that looked more like fortresses than houses! Yes, I realize that there are some gargantuan homes all around the area, but some of these still looked HUGE even when we were on the TOP of Camelback!

We fell in love with Yogurtology - some place we'd never been before. Also enjoyed a 5K run, watching the sunrise, power walks, mini-golfing with the kids, eating at X-Tapa Joes, L'Amore, and of course Indulgeburger. We also went to the Coyotes versus Wings game (not over than one yet!!).

We are now back in Michigan where it was 24 degrees this morning. At least it's sunny. Went for a run Saturday with my husband and not only was it cold, but the wind was frigid and practically took my breath away (as the cold tears running down my face from the wind were starting to freeze). Oh, how I miss the morning AZ runs.

We looked at some houses while there, in hopes of making AZ home someday. We love the homes we toured, just wish you could get a big mid-west backyard around there. I supposed we could get used to the cement walls if we decorated them or having your neighbor's wall within a few feet of your side windows. That would definitely be the hardest part. But, I suppose that is the price we'd pay to get away from the harsh winters, and gain the mountains, good weather, palm trees, and sunshine.

I have no problem with the cement walls or the closer houses. Not sure if DH could though. Although he has grown tired of mowing the 2/3 acre we have here in NC, even with the riding mower! I could leave here tomorrow.

If you have any photos, can you post them? Thanks.

Default I will call Scottsdale home in November!!

My husband is working out in Phoenix today. While he's out there, he's checking out some apartments for us. We'll be there full time by the end of the year!!! He already has a job but I'm a little worried for myself. DH makes good money but we're also paying college loans for our children......need I say more??? I'm soooooo excited.

glad to hear you enjoyed it again. Very little compares to AZ during this time of year.

On a note about the cement walls - it's just a part of the architecture around here Less so as you move further away from greater Phoenix. Tell you what though, when you buy a place, consider having the fence wall stuccoed and painted.... makes a world of difference.

Come back soon.

Krazy Kat Lady - Good luck with the apartment hunting and move. My two kids are in college now so, yes, I understand. Luckily, my 21 yr old daughter works full time in management so pays her way as she goes. My 19 yr old son on the other hand has not been as fortunate and we are helping him. I am hoping both can graduate debt free.

I still have my coat on at work trying to warm up! 32 degrees here now, while I see it is 56 already in Scottsdale (and it's only 7am there). Oh how nice that would be!

Will your kids be heading to AZ with you or staying back in NY? I am thinking it will be hard to leave the kids, even though they probably wouldn't mind!

Thanks for your reply. I see many of the homes have hoa's. Do you know if most would allow painting at least the inner wall or decorating it somehow? I know there are many flowers that could creep up the walls as well. We have appx 2/3 of an acre now (lots of privacy, but still in a housing development), lots of shade trees, a small garden, and lots of open space where we regularly see rabbits and other small wildlife. I just look at all the cement walls and think - ugggh. That is the only turnoff and it would definitely take some getting used to - but then I'd have to remember that an AZ backyard could be extended into the great hiking trails, mountains, and all of the other natural beauty that AZ has to offer.

ILikeEveryone-
Okay, here are the pictures. I had to condense them since the files were so large. Hopefully they are not too small now..

My oldest is 23. He and his girlfriend will be moving out there with us and living with us until they find jobs. My youngest is 21 and living and working in NJ while waiting to get into medical school. She has no desire to live in AZ.....boyfriend lives here.......

I will really, really miss my daughter but she's at the age where she really doesn't have much desire to hang with us anyway. I keep telling myself that "she's only a plane ticket away."

I hear you : ) It sounds like your daughter is in a perfect place and her opportunities are right where she is. At least for now. Same with my daughter. She is in management at a fantastic bank that treats her well and she loves her college that she attends (full time nights). Busy girl. She will graduate in a year. I'd miss her as we are close, but like you say - it's only a plane ticket away. Plus we can even Skype nowadays! It's funny, because I know I'd miss my son too- but he is away at college and it's like pulling teeth trying to get him to return my phone call. He'd probably LOVE to have me move as he is loving the independence of college life Good for you that you get to take your son along! Since he is young, it is a perfect time for him to start this new adventure in his life (as yours).
