First, a very successful Tempe consulting company operated by longtime Phoenix political activist Nathan Sproul emerged as a key to a nationwide voter registration scandal. Now, a company a few miles away on Scottsdale Road in Phoenix has been discovered as the employee of an individual arrested for destroying voter registration forms.

PinPoint Staffing has been named as the employer of Colin Small, a man currently in jail in Virginia. He was initially charged with four counts of destroying voter registration applications, eight counts of failing to disclose voter registration applications, and one count of obstruction of justice; other charges may be forthcoming. Small was implicated when witnesses saw him tossing voter registration forms into a dumpster behind a shopping center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

PinPoint Staffing has, for months, hired and placed workers for GOP-related voter registration and canvassing efforts around the country. While they have ceased their efforts in some areas where criminal charges have been made or are forthcoming, they continue to operate in as many as 30 other states. Charges currently under investigation include accusations that PinPoint employees, acting for various GOP organizations, have:
- destroyed forms of people registering as Democrats,
- refused to register people identifying as Obama supporters,
- changed addresses of currently registered voters so their votes won't count on election day.

Nathan Sproul, former head of both the Arizona Republican Party and the Arizona Christian Coalition, has a long career in Arizona and national GOP politics. Firms he runs have been accused of various improprieties for years. Following the 2004 presidential election, Democrats in Congress formally called on the Department of Justice to investigate Sproul, but Bush-appointed attorneys general failed to act. The 2004 Bush campaign had paid Sproul's group $7.4 million and in 2008 Sproul worked for the McCain/Palin campaign. Sproul incurred the wrath of many in Arizona when he worked tirelessly to repeal the state's Clean Election Law.

Last September, the Republican National Committee very publicly fired a company called Strategic Allied Consulting, after Florida's Palm Beach County rejected 106 questionable new-voter registrations collected by the firm. The RNC had already paid Strategic Allied $1.3 million for its 2012 work in Florida and approximately $3 million for other projects in Nevada, North Carolina, Colorado, as well as Virginia, where the voter registration scandal heated up this week.

It was later revealed that "Strategic Allied" was created at the RNC's request because the party wanted to avoid links to past allegations of Sproul firms they employed previously. Strategic Allied was set up under the address of a Virginia law firm; Sproul does not show up on the corporate paperwork, although he admits it's his firm. That address is also used by Karl Rove's American Crossroads and a PAC run by the Koch brothers. Sproul's consulting firm began under the name Sproul & Associates, but as accusations dogged him he has called it many different names over the years including Voter Outreach America and Grassroots Outreach. It's currently operating under the name Lincoln Strategy Group and is located on Rio Salado Parkway in Tempe. Mitt Romney's financial statements show he has paid Lincoln $79,000 for personal work for him in the 2012 campaign.

Sproul's spokesperson David Leibowitz, told Salon magazine that "the only connection between Sproul and Pinpoint is that Nathan has, on occasion, used Pinpoint to hire some workers." He denies any connection to PinPoint's current activities for the national GOP.

Voter fraud, of all kinds, occurs in every city, every state. It's a sad fact of life. At the end of the day, regardless of who appears to benefit from devious actions, the puppeteers are still in power and laughing about stories like this. People still think voting matters. People still believe there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans. The sheep are doing and thinking what they are supposed to.
