If I send a check to Maricopa County for partial payment of my 2011 taxes, with the Parcel Number on the check, will they credit my account? I realize they have not been billed, yet. But, they are as sure to come as the Summer heat. The year is almost 1/3 over, and I like to keep very up to date books.

I don't see why they would not credit your account. You might want to do more than just send a check with the parcel number, attach a note saying that you are paying early, ask that your account be credited, and if they have any questions, call you.

It'll take you about 5 minutes to call the tax assessors office and get the official answer.

You should call. The county has nice, knowledgeable people unlike the forum. I overpaid once and they sent me a refund check a few weeks later.

I called the Treasurer's Office, and yes they were polite. They politely gave me a different answer than the last time I called. Before, she told me that if you had no balance the check would be returned. This time she said, if you put 2011 on your check and the parcel number, they will credit your account. Obviously 2010 is has already been paid (ouch 2.6% of market value).
