Thanks for the tip, Chanygirl, added to my notebook.

I must say, I like how numbered roads work in Phoenix - it's the area a little south of Camelback, if I got it right..? Very practical compared to the random 'name after local bigwig/ species of tree/ historical event now passed out of mind' road system we have in Europe.

32nd St is not Arcadia, really, the true Arcadia district runs from 44th to 68th, from the canal north of Indian School to Camelback.

I expect that level of precision is only important if you're buying a house and want to protect the resale value - I'll be going for the more unscientific method of driving around gawping out of the window, going 'oooh, this bit looks nice', saving it as a Favourite into GPS and then researching schools once back in front of a computer. I'll drive from 32nd to 68th, just to be sure!

Thanks guys, getting very excited about the trip now.

That's fine to do... it's good to get as much of an overall impression as you can! You will find that the neighborhoods off 32nd north of Indian School are quite different than those further east. And, you are in a different school district there, as well. Good luck!

I'm really going to have to watch out for this street-by-street decision-making, I think. We've never lived in a large city before, so are more used to choosing a village/small town rather than a neighbourhood. I'll keep alert...
