No. There are similarities, but there are more differences. Both cities offer everything under the spectrum. I think you could call Riverside County a suburb of LA, and I believe that actually extends all the way to Blight, erh I mean Blythe, who sent us some wonderful, cheap cantaloupe last week.

A suburb of LA? - heck NO (wayyyyyy toooo far away from LA for that).

Similar to LA? - Absolutely.
It's NOT identical. There are no beaches and fewer nearby mountains. It also lacks the whole "Hollywood: Entertainment Capital of the World" type vibe.

However, there ARE definitely similarities. For one thing, both are sunny and generally warm, both have lots of palms and both are relatively new with generally WIDE streets. The biggest and most striking similarity though is the VAST SIZE and the endless suburban sprawl. Driving through the greater Phoenix area is very much like driving though the LA area. Both feature mile after mile after mile of endless cookie-cutter developments and shopping malls. Of all the places I've been Phoenix is BY FAR the most similar to the LA area. By FAR.

Everything except the ocean. I might be going to Phoenix sometime this summer and I'm worried about how much my skin is going to burn and dry out.

How in the world is a city that is an ALL DAY drive 8 hours away, with 5-6 of those hours some of the most uninhabited stretches of desert in between a suburb of another city??? The two cities are not even close! Maybe, just maybe I could see someone asking whether of not San Diego is a suburb of LA, but Phoenix??

I don't want to sound rude, but this is one of the most rediculous threads I've encountered.

Its more plausible to ask whether or not Detroit or Cincinnati are suburbs of Chicago, as they are respectively closer, and have a lot civilization in between. But even still, that idea would still be rediculous.
