All,

Thanks so much for your helpful advice and quick responses!!

I appreciate the honesty, too. I think I'm going to go ahead and take the job offer, because I'm in a lucky enough situation where if i REALLY feel unsafe in the Maryvale area, i can always leave.

That being said, I wouldn't be in Maryvale any later than 7pm on the weekdays, and not at all on the weekends, so I'm pretty sure it'll be doable. I used to work on the Navajo reservation, and I'm used to at-risk populations. Different than the city, i know, but still had it's share of crime.

Has anyone heard of the Pioneer Preparatory School out there?? Good, bad, ugly??

Thanks!!!

Good idea. I'm sure lots of people work in Maryvale and feel completely safe. I just wouldn't live anywhere around there for many reasons. Not only is the crime rate higher, you also have to contend with lots of unkempt houses, sleazy apartments, businesses that cater to a lower class crowd, graffiti, and plenty of blight. It's just not an appealing section.
