I like really hot weather so when is the best time to go to Phoenix to experience this?

Statisticly, July is the average hottest month, but it's also the month when the monsoon kicks in if i'm not mistaken, often keeping those scorching temperatures of 110 degrees away.

I've read in the forum that the end of June is more likely to have 110 degrees days due to the fact that the monsoon really hasn't started yet.

When am I more likely to experience really high temperatures, at the end of June or in the middle of July?

Late June usually has the hottest HIGH temps, but it is not the worst time of the year if you want to experience that. It is still quite pleasant in the mornings and evenings in spite of the high peak temps because it is very, very dry. It is worst when the humidity is higher and temps are still up there, especially at night, and that is at various times in July and August. If you can spend a week or so mid-July to mid-August you should get the combination of heat, humidity, hot nights and dust storms that we all love.

If you just want to experience 115+, then your best chance is the last week of June. Then again, this was the first year in the last four that we have had a day over 115, so it's not certain by any means. 110 is pretty much guaranteed though.

Ponderosa is correct. Late June and early July are consistently the hottest but not the most miserable. This year our hottest day was 7/2, but it was weird. Let me explain.

I try to set new records for myself and I went out on my bicycle at the hottest time of the day hoping I would exceed my previous record of riding my bike through the mountains when it was 116 (2007). I rode up to Tapatio Cliffs and then through the North Mountain desert park for about 10 miles in all, utterly alone in every regard. No one was on the paths and no cars were parked in the lot. We officially hit 118 but I heard it was 120+ in some of the suburbs. I was here when it was 122 back in 1990 but this 118 was scary. The breeze was uncomfortably hot and my metal bike with black leather seat were too hot to touch at times. For the first time in all 6 years of riding my bike here in Phoenix, I was 'entertaining' the idea that I might literally burst into flames! The weird thing was that the dry heat was only at the surface while humidity was evident overhead in the form of clouds and thunderstorms in the distance. By the time I got home it was overcast, but I swear it had to have been at least 120 where I was. I won't forget the experience, that's for sure.

The period from late June into the first half of July usually experiences the hottest DAYTIME temperatures ... however, the two hottest months are clearly July & August when you average both maximum & minimum temps. Today, for example, the high temperature was a blazing 113 degrees, and low temperatures will likely drop no lower than 90.

Here are the stats ... and using these averages indicate that June would actually be the coolest of the three hottest months:
JUNE average high temperature: 103.9
JUNE average low temperature: 77.7
JUNE mean average temperature: 90.8

JULY average high temperature: 106.1
JULY average low temperature: 83.5
JULY mean average temperature: 94.8

AUGUST average high temperature: 104.4
AUGUST average low temperature: 82.7
AUGUST mean average temperature: 93.6

Thanks for great replies! I think I'll visit two weeks next year during late July.

According to weather.com and their daily average temperature statistics, Phoenix has the hottest average temperatures 4th-21st of July. But does anyone know if there is any statistics available on daily average humidity of Phoenix?

If anyone does, please tell me

Mid-late June or July-Aug. aren't that much different in terms of how it feels-the temps are slightly higher in June but are still close to those highs in July and August, but with moderate humidity in the 20-30% range vs. single digit levels in April-June, which is the driest period of the year. Essentially when the temp and humidity are factored in, the heat index is about the same. Not terrible in either case in that the humidity here, even at it's worst, isn't bad at all compared to most of the rest of the country. Essentially this area of the continent just has wonderful weather in general compared to the rest of the continent.

I'm on a motorcycle every day so trust me, I know.

August has been the hottest month this year but only because the summertime monsoon was more active in July, hardly any rainstorms this month.

It's a tradeoff, dry weather means higher temperatures, more humidity and thunderstorms mean lower temperatures but you feel lousier with higher humidity.
