I realize it's called a deposit for a reason and I would get it back, but I thought after you terminated service or something along those lines...not automatically.
I went to pay the electric bill online, and the total was $59.00...in the middle of summer...in Phoenix! I'm thinking...what the?! Did they apply someone else's payment to the account? Nope, they credited it $341.00 and that was the balance...it's like getting all that money for free!
It turns out that after 2 years, they automatically credit the account with the deposit made initially. Go APS!

I was totally amazed when this happened to me, too! That was some years ago when the rare animal "good customer service" still existed, but getting a deposit back, without asking AND get this... + INTEREST for the period they kept the money just floored me! Don't recall if it was the electric or the gas company, but will fondly remember it as a reminder of the good ol' days...

SW Gas also refunds your deposit after 1 year -- automatically. But there is no interest earned. Still, nice to get it back, especially without even asking!

I am glad to hear that. I am renting an apartment and my deposit was only $115. But to know I will get it back is good!

You really should always get interest from any deposits that you have to make. Remember also to do your best to never have to pay deposits. If you've never had an APS account, but you had SRP, don't pay a deposit to APS!! Same goes for Southwest Gas, etc. Don't pay any deposits you don't have to pay! Keep your money for your best investment - yourself!
