A friend of mine is giving me a truck he was given, he decided not to put any more work into it and said I can HAVE it. The problem is the truck has a lot of back fee's from not being registered since 2003. About $600.

I am having the truck shipped, and he will be mailing me the title.

When I register this thing in Arizona, will I have to pay those $600 in California fee's? I could not find any sure fire info on this...

My guess would be NO, Tyler . . . especially if you claim the vehicle was not "roadworthy" for those years.

If in doubt and to be certain, contact the MVD at . . .

Tucson: 520-629-9808
Elsewhere in Arizona: 800-251-5866

Well I guess I shall update when I get the truck and go do the registration. Should be interesting, good thing the truck is free because I anticipate some money being spent at the DMV!

Probably NOT, Tyler.

There's just a standard Title Transfer Fee and, depending on the age and value of the truck, a simple registration fee. Since you are "buying" from a private party, I don't think there will be any sales tax involved. Not sure how you're going to handle the emission test but that's only about 12 bucks.

My '86 Jeep CJ-7 runs less than 50 bucks a year including the personalized plate.

I have heard all sorts of things on the sales tax on out of state vehicles, but I would think it should not be an issue because it was a private party as you said.

I was just speaking of the potential $650 in fee's they may make me pay. Hopefully they don't, then I can get out cheap!
