I am looking for a low priced apartment in Northern Phoenix. The only thing important to me is protecting my vehicle from theft. I ride a motorcycle. Is it possible to find a apartment on the low end with gated parking, or a place where my vehicle is reasonably safe?

Do I have any other options? I have a read a few posts online about renting a garage, but the authors didn't provide any details.

I have lived in North Phoenix most of my life. What part of the area are you looking for? Are you going to be going to MMI (just wondering since you said you had a motorcycle).

North Phoenix covers large area, but a few good ones I know of that are affordable are Saratoga Ridge near 16th St and Bell Road. When I lived there in 2007 it was $450/month for my 750sq ft 1bd apartment.

Down the road there is Alegria on 40th St and Greenway, about $500/month for a smaller 1bd.

If you want to go more west there are some like La Palma which is about the same price.

I would try to stay east of the I-17 if possible IMO, it's a little nicer of an area east of 19th ave.

Thanks for the info. I am planning to attend MMI. The Phoenix natives must get a lot of visitors because of MMI.

FWIW, "gated" apartments aren't any better than ungated ones when it comes to vehicle thefts, and zip codes won't protect you either.

Pay a little more and get a house with a garage (perhaps split with a roomate?), or expect random acts of theft and vandalism to occur.

Insurance is reasonable here, so consider a low deductible if you drive something flashy, and also consider parting with the flashiness if you have to rent without a garage.

Perhaps you could kluge together a "Rat Bike" - one of my neighbors did and it's impressive in it's krustiness...

As for renting a garage by itself - there are a few listings on Craigslist for those...
