SSI Payment Amounts (Mesa: low income, insurance, how much)

Was just wondering how much a person gets a month for SSI in AZ. I currently live in PA but am planning on making a move and my mother will be moving with us and she received SSI. I know in PA she receives 720ish...PA gives an allowance along with what the government does. Can anyone tell me what the payment amt is in AZ?

I found the info about the state supplement in PA by Googling "Pennsylvania SSI"

Doing the same Google search under "Arizona SSI" got me this: http://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/progd...t/2011/az.html Not the same sort of page, even. It looks to me like there is not a similar supplement in AZ.

I think the 2012 amount in AZ is 698 and there is no supplement.

My mother in law moved from Montana to Mesa with my wife. Her SSI stayed the same as Montana and as a matter of fact, she received notification from SSA this week that her payment will increase with $20 bucks, now neting $588/mo. I hope this helps.

As these posts indicate, I don't think that SSI is a set amount in any given state; SSDI, if memory serves, is different, and varies depending on the amount/years of contributions to the SS system while the person was working.

SSI is fixed and has nothing to do with the state. Although ....... Some states (not all) have programs that help withs some additional expenses for Senior and disabled. Examples would be Medicare and perscription coverage.

What is SSI? Is it a disability payment of some sort or something else? Just curious because my brother needs something to help him, no medical insurance, govenor put the kabosh on adults with no dependents getting medical assistance even though my brother worked all of his life.

What is SSI?

SSI makes monthly payments to people who have low income and few resources and are:

•Age 65 or older;
•Blind; or
•Disabled.

If you are applying for SSI, you also should ask for What You Need To Know When You Get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) (Publication No. 05-11011). Disabled or blind children also can receive SSI. You can get more information in Benefits For Children With Disabilities(Publication No. 05-10026).

The basic SSI amount is the same nationwide. However, many states add money to the basic benefit. You can call us to find out the amounts for your state.

Thank you for the response, he is not 65 or blind, he needs a doctor to say he is disabled, but if he keeps going without his medicine he will be disabled.
