...would really like to buy a house on the outskirts of Phoenix. Please don't hammer me on this question but: are there any homes on the market for $50,000 or under?

I'm struggling along with everyone else in the current economy but need to think about mt retirement within the next ten years or so. I live in New England and am therefore obviously very interested in being warm in my old age

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you 55? Sun City is a safe and affordable area if you like 60's style architecture. You can go to realtor.com or one of the other search sites and plug in 85351 to see what you can get. Won't be large or gorgeous but a decent roof over your head. You would be surrounded by shopping and doctors. Good luck to you.

If you don't mind living in Mesa/Apache Junction, there are quite a few 55+ retirement communities in the area where you can buy a "park model" (i.e. upgraded trailer) for less than you want to spend. They actually aren't half bad- quite a few snowbirds buy in these places and come down for winter.

Look in Queen Creek and Maricopa City, I believe they still have some homes for 50,000.

I don't see many houses for under 50,000......but I have seen quite a number of condos in that range that are actually in really good shape. Are you open to either house or condo? Or strictly looking for single family home?

Yes, you can. Here is a decent 3 bedroom house that is currently for sale at $45,000. My friend lives in this neighborhood and he loves it.

The problem with condos will be the HOA fees.

A friend of mine has a condo/townhome in Sun City that, if memory serves, was in that price range. The fees there are very low, for what you get. 400 and something A YEAR.

That is a short sale with an accepted offer in bank review since 5/11.

There are homes in that price range, you will just have to pick through them to find something that will be livable and suitable. Many will likely require major repairs. If they are in good condition, it's likely they will sell quickly.

Sorry, I did not know that. There are others in that area that are around $50,000.
