Does anyone know if the little cameras on top of the street lights at Frank Lloyd Wright & Greenway-Hayden Loop are red light runner radars? I definitely ran a red light through there about a week ago. Nothing flashed but it is bothering me. Is this a surveillance cam or shall I be expecting some mail shortly?

This is not a red light camera. It's a camera that transmits images of the intersection to a viewing room somewhere, where workers can adjust the timing of the lights based on traffic.

It's actually not even as interesting as what either of the last 2 posts said. Those cameras are actually there to monitor stopped traffic building up at the intersection. They are used to institute changes to the signal timing based upon traffic volume. Their resolution is so poor that they can't identify much about the vehicles that they are pointed at (just the presence of the vehicle). They serve the same purpose as "loop" detectors built into streets which sense the presence of vehicles. Scottsdale mostly uses "loop" detectors but piloted video detectors at this intersection and a few others throughout the city.

Those traffic cams are pretty common now. Many cities across the valley and across the state have them installed on their traffic signals. Virtually all the photo radar cameras would be installed on the ground.

Take the tin foil hat off. It's for traffic control. No one cares to sit in some room and remotely stalk random Valley drivers.
