About the boat thing: Arizona Has More Boats Per Capita Than Any State ?

I was on the 101 north and university was closed.....mckellips is closed... and then you come flying up on McDowell and there are hundreds of cars looking to exit and it took some blue angel maneuvers on my part to avoid rear ending the cars in front while at the same time moseying over to avoid getting rear ended from behind. complete chaos- next time I'll know better.
You think that's bad? Try that stupid Phoenix Marathon route that cuts off an entire neighborhood for a whole day.

Look at the section of the course from #11-#13....notice how the neighborhood there is hemmed in by a canal on one side and completely cut off by the race course on the other 3 sides? Yeah, if you are in that area and have something to do on that Sunday GOOD LUCK, as you are screwed....hope you don't mind swimming across the canal!

The topic is lakes in Phoenix, not traffic woes as a result of special events. Back to topic, please.

Swimming IS allowed in Tempe Town Lake -- about once a year -- if you're in the triathlon! (Don't know if there are any other swimming events besides the Ironman.) Rowing, kayaking, paddle boating, and small-boat sailing are the big draws there, otherwise. Traffic is directed counter-clockwise for paddlers. I'm told that the water is alkaline, but is treated to reduce the alkalinity before the triathlon... it's a fairly big deal.

Lake Pleasant has two different marinas, both with fuel and restaurants, and several boat ramps. Note that the east and west sides of Lake Pleasant are administered by different organizations, so vehicle entry has to be paid for each side if you want to visit both in your automobile. And, it's only about six hours to the ocean in southern California or in Mexico's Gulf of California.

I said that already, upthread. Let's not confuse the issue more. Swimming ONE day a year if you are entered in ONE event really doesn't answer the OP's question. The OP isn't doing any triathlons, as far as we know.
