A friend and I decided to go out to Durant's Steakhouse tonight and I am VERY impressed! I really was craving steak all night but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg so a buddy suggested I try Durant's and I'm glad I did.

We both had the 12 oz filet and I had a glass of Cabernet. The steak was just heavenly- cooked medium-rare and extremely tender. It's on the top 10 steaks I've had in the past decade.

What even impressed me more is the feeling of the place, I'm absolutely in LOVE with the old world charm. I feel like I'm in a steakhouse- I almost feel as if I'm JR Ewing and should be scheming on plans to drill an oil well in the vast desert. It has the type of atmosphere that so many "modern and edgy" steakhouses lack. It's dressy but casual- I should've worn my cowboy boots and a bolo tie.

The prices are fair, not terribly expensive. I usually don't review places but this was just an excellent combination of great food, old world charm, and history.

I'll definitely be going back.

Heard many good things about this place and I guess I need to try it. Sounds right up my alley.

Have you tried the Pink Pony in Old Town Scottsdale? It's another old time steakhouse that doesn't try to be trendy. Most people have the "Pony Special". I don't get to Scottsdale much anymore, so I can't give you a current review. (Full disclosure: it closed for a few years and has reopened. My understanding is that it's staffed by some of the old timers.)

It's not a sports bar by any modern definition, but it was ground central for Spring Training decades ago and there's memorabilia on the walls. A clue is that the logo is build around a baseball diamond.

I went a few years back and the Pony was absolutely awful.

I took some out of town guests there and was embarassed to do so.

There is new ownership now and they have updated it a bit. Space is a great location with a ton of potential and personality - hopefully the new group can resurrect it ..... however, with the sheer number of options out here I'm going to be hesitant to give it another run
