We are about to become "snow birds" & leave June-Oct.... So how do you handle the water dept. We'll leave the power on - since that bill will be minimal.... but we would just as soon NOT pay the same water bill while we are not using it!

the water bill includes trash pick up , sewer & water usage... can U simply have it turned off - or are there large disconnect-re-connect fees? Are there discounted rates?
\
any info would be appreciated.
thanks

Where do you live? Have you contacted that city and asked how they handle this?

As Kimballette said, the best way is to contact the city utility department and ask them the best way to handle your situation.

SH,

Possible that I totally misunderstood, however the OP is trying to become a Snowbird hehehe. In any event I highly recommend NOT starting "snowbirdship" with more than 180 days stay... But then again, nobody listens to what we have to say at the border

Your water bill should be based on a meter reading, so if you're not there the charges should be small. You probably don't want your water physically turned off, at least not if you have any landscaping that needs water. I'm sure the cities will stop trash service with a phone call or via a web request form.

You aren't going to be snow birds - a snow bird is someone who is a legal resident of another state/country who spends time in Arizona. Since you are here the majority of the year, I would think (I'm not a lawyer or accountant) that you are residents of Arizona and should have AZ driver's licenses and license plates and pay AZ income tax (be sure you file long form so you don't have to pay tax on your social security).

Not exactly a snowbird.. but I think having your main residence in Arizona for maybe 8 months of the year and then going North or to higher elevation for maybe 4 months per year is the better way.. Are you maybe a "heatbird"?

True. You are not going to be snowbirds... you are going to be one of many Arizona legal residents who spend the SUMMER elsewhere. As far as your question, contact the city you are in and ask how to handle your situation.

When you do leave, you should turn off the main water valve to your house, unless you have automatic waterers for landscaping, etc.
