Any idea how the IT market in Phoenix is doing - particularly in the Java EE area for a Sr. Software Engineer, Team lead or Architect role?

They are opening a few huge data centers in the Phoenix area.

I don't know exactly what we look for, but when my company needs a programmer we have to include AZ and CA and the pickings sure seem slim.

A lot of that can be blamed on the offshoring of IT jobs.

Even Silicon Valley has seen a shortage of high-tech jobs lately.

You'd think offshoring of jobs would mean more unemployed IT pros here.

Most IT jobs in the Valley are not IT jobs, but customer service jobs in call centers. So, if it will make your grandma happy to tell her you work for Microsoft...go for it, but it's not going to be pleasant.

Sr. is the game in Phoenix. If you have companies that are well known in the USA on your resume, people will want you. With that in mind, would you like a good temp agency I went through for a while until I found a better gig? My uncle and myself went through these people until I found something good. But even then I still want to work where I am. lol. Robert Half can walk off a cliff.

Beyond that dice is a great measure on job availability in the area.
