I'm relocating to Tempe soon and have been trying to find a place near ASU. I really would like to avoid those large complexes in Tempe. I don't even know where to start in terms of finding smaller apartment buildings, duplexes, etc. I saw some that I liked from Rentals Tempe but apparently they are all around awful. I can't find anything else on craigslist.

Anyone have suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated!

I looked at the listings on Rentals Tempe, so I would know what else to suggest. There are some small complexes south of the University on College, between Apache and Broadway. I don't know what they are like inside, though I drive by them all the time, but the surrounding area is nice, lots of green, big park on the east side of College Ave. There are also some smaller complexes west of the University, north of Mill Avenue. There's also some options along Rural and McClintock. None of these places advertise much, probably, you are just going to have to do your search from the ground. Good luck!

Thanks for the input! Can you suggest any specific buildings in those areas? I'm not from the area so don't have the resources yet to go snooping around for places on the ground...

No... but only because I have no idea what that is!

(What is that?)

Multiple Listing Service, where houses for sale get listed. It has rentals, too. Find a realtor on this board and follow through their profile to their web site to find an MLS portal. Or find a realtor in real life to search for listings for you, and help you pick some good ones to look at and schedule appts. They will do that, usually.

I'll try to get a few names and phone numbers in the next day or so. School's out at ASU in the next day or so, so people will be leaving.. that should help open things up.
