I've been around Sports for decades and I've never seen them start that young in organized basketball or baseball. I would recommend an official wiffle ball set. Chandler probably has an outstanding Little League....look them up...but I think T-ball starts at 7.

Check the YMCA for basketball programs; not sure what age it starts but our son played at age 7.

For baseball -- your options are Chandler Youth League (games are at Arrowhead park, near Alma School/Chandler Blvd) OR Chandler National League (games are at Snedigar park, Alma School & Ocotillo). Chandler Youth is a PONY league and Chandler National is a Little League. We are currently with Chandler Youth and moving to Chandler National -- mainly because the location is way more convenient and I have heard great things about the league. Both leagues are different though -- after t-ball, they switch to machine pitch at Chandler Youth where it's coach-pitch at Chandler National. In Mustang (age 9-10), the kids pitch and they start base-stealing. With Chandler Youth, the kids can steal once the ball leaves the pitcher's hands but with Chandler National the ball has to cross the plate before they can steal... and they cannot lead-off. If your pitching is bad, the other team will get runs from base-stealing alone with Chandler Youth.

You can also look into soccer and flag football. I know people who have had their kids participate with i9 sports. It's non-competitive.

Competitive swimming starts pretty young. Mini-golf is a good game for all ages. Nothing beats a Frisbee for safe, cheap sport.
