Sorry to hear you are leaving us. I have heard it is a LOT harder for those from the East to get used to Arizona, than those already from the West. The culture is completely different. It took me several years and I just moved from WA state. I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you. It's too bad you were here during our hardest months to handle. Best of luck to you in the future. Take care.

Default Independent Restaurants

There are lots of yummy, inexpensive non chain restaurants around the valley. You just have to hunt for them. They don't have the name recoginition as the big chains. My experience though has been that many people in Phoenix come from smaller towns where they did not have access to large chains so they go for the name recognition. Always amazes me that Cheesecake Factory has a three hour wait. The food is mediocre and way overpriced. I'm much happier to go down the street and support one of my neighbors who is struggling to survive admist all the chains. For every $100 you spend at a chain restaurant, your community only sees $13, for the same amount at a locally owned establishment, your community receives $45!

Right now having a business downtown is definitely a losing proposition because of all the construction that's going on. A lot of businesses have closed in downtown and on the Central corridor mainly because of the light rail project, and they still have another year to go before it's all finished.
