Is it shopping or is it small airport? On a map it LOOKs like an airport but there are a lot of houses nearby and I keep hearing about the shopping over there.

It adjoins Scottsdale Municipal Airport. Unless it has changed a lot recently, there are a lot of businesses/offices/small light industrial in there, but not a lot of the kind of retail Scottsdale's known for. There's a lot of retail nearby, (like Kierland Commons, Scottsdale Quarter, and the area along Frank Lloyd Wright E of Scottsdale Rd) but I would not call Scottsdale Airpark a retail destination.

Take a look at this, which I found with Google: http://www.scottsdaleairpark.com/biz-directory.aspx

To me, this directory includes some addresses that I would not have considered part of the Airpark, but it gives you an idea of the type of businesses there.

Scottsdale Airpark is an industrial/commercial (not shopping) area where a lot of business offices, etc., reside. Caters more towards business community, and the airport is part of Scottsdale Airpark.

it also has the largest concentration of employment in the state (appx. 50K people work there)....developed very quickly starting in the 1970s as the City of Scottsdale decided to make it an employment/industrial hub centered on the already-existing airport....lots of traffic....there IS retail, but it's more Costco/WalMart/pool supplies/car parts/what-have-you, regular stuff...a few upscale furniture/decorating places, but not in a Rodeo Drive-style.....lots of sorta hidden warehouse/light manufacturing companies....spread-out area with lots of streets wandering off into different areas....
