I am moving to Phoenix from Atlanta at end of August and picked two places to live, one located in North Scottsdale (Near N. 104th Street and E. Via Linda, Scottsdale, AZ 85258) and one in Tempe (Near S. McClintock Dr and E. Bell de Mar, Tempe, AZ 85283) and I was wondering, is anyone familiar with both areas?

I will be working from home and looking for a quiet neighborhood, close to stores (Whole Foods, Frys, Target) and a shopping mall, close to the freeway and overall good quality of living.

1. Which one is safer (in terms of crime)?
2. Which is more walkable?
3. Which has easy access to the freeways?
4. Which has good yoga studios close by?
5. Which place would I feel more comfortable living as I am moving out of state (meeting people, etc)?
6. Which would be close to performing arts?
7. Which place would you choose to live overall?

Thanks in advance. I am so excited to be moving to Phoenix!

To be honest you cant go wrong with either area. They are both nice areas Im partical to Tempe, some here will way in on Scottsdale. I'm always going to that shopping center near Bel da Mar McClintock and Guadalupe. I was there last night went to The Habit I love their burgers. There is what seems to be a yago or some type of dance studio there based on the amount of hot chicks in spandex.

Meeting people is up to you no matter where you live it will be because of your personality.

Tempe has more performing arts close by, with the venues at the University, Tempe Center for the Performing Arts, Mesa Arts Center, and an easy trip by car or light rail to the downtown entertainment venues. Easier access to multiple freeways in Tempe. I think the area you are looking at in Tempe is a bit more walkable, as there's shopping just to the north (no place in the Valley gets really high walk scores, especially in summer. Good local mass transit in Tempe, there's a bus route running the length of McClintock/Hayden from the Chandler Fashion Center (really nice mall close by to the Tempe location) all the way to north Scottsdale.

With the caveat that I've lived in Tempe for decades, for me, the Tempe location wins.

North Tempe (downtown) near ASU and Tempe/Phoenix and Tempe/Mesa border is blah
You get loud college kids and traffic
Tempe/Ahwatukee and Tempe/Chandler are nice areas with good schools and parks

N Scottsdale is way quieter cuz of the increase in the average age of the population
It's a lot more scenic but more expensive of course. You get access to 101 and that may be pretty much it as opposed to Tempe having the 202, 101, the 10 and 60 highways

I am actually moving to N Sdale because I'll be closer to a job. Tempe is fun to see and hang around but I wouldn't live there personally

They both have great parks and a big outdoor scene

[mod cut-- rude] The OP Tempe location is not N Tempe it's S Tempe. I live near ASU near Mill and South and don't have to deal with loud college kids. North Scottsdale doesn't offer anything that is worth the increased price in living there.
