I made a downpayment of 3500$. And I realised the neighbourhood is not tat good and wanted to wait longer. So Cancelled the contract and choose a different house after 6 months. Before cancelling I was being told, I would not get back my earnest deposit, which I believe is obvious. i cancelled the contract, I didnt bother calling for earnest deposit. After month, I received the cheque for 3500$. Can you believe it???..

When I signed the first contract, I got 1% cashback from realtor. Now with the new house I got 2.25% cash back. Its all lucky for me!!

Great news, Arun

Obviously there are still some decent ethical people out there but don't push your luck next time! ! ! ! !

Highly unusual! Just remember, location, location, location!! Do your homework, go sit in the neighborhood at all hours of the day/evening/night. Watch the people that are walking about, check out the police reports. What you learn from watching, talking to neighbors and just hanging out can tell you more that any Realtor can! When purchasing a home you must protect your own interests because there are not many out there that will do it for you......

I'm glad your problem had a good solution!

O.Nana

Yep count your blessings. We canceled on one house and they are fighting (tooth and nail) to keep the deposit. It's been several weeks of BS! But we went in knowing we probably wouldn't get it back.
