October thru may is amazing, if you have a pool you won't mind June thru september. Schools are what you make of them and I have never felt unsafe here (Gilbert)

I moved to PHX (ahwatukee) from southwestern Virginia about three years ago and I think it is great! The weather can be a pain but it's like extremes anywhere...you just don't go out in it. In VA we had days that it was 93 degrees with 90% humidity...I stayed in side. We also had days in January that were 5 degrees with 8 inches of snow...I stayed inside. Just like in PHX...it was 115 yesterday...so I stayed inside. We have three or four "bad" months and the rest of the year is amazing! We have 4 professional sports teams, hiking, great food, great shopping, and AMAZING urban planning. The roads in AZ compared to the south and eastern states are amazing. If you look at a map of PHX it is all on a grid which makes travel great in my opinion. My wife and I are both 25 with no kids but i've heard the school near us (desert vista) is one of the best in the state. The Kyrene school district is supposed to be very good which is fairly large I think. I really have no complaints about the the valley with exception to the 30k millionaire wannabes that run around old town scottsdale at night in their dad's hummer...aside from that it's great!
