My husband plans on accepting a new job in Phoenix. In order to avoid breaking our lease we will need to move into the Archstone Arrowhead Apartments for a while in Glendale. I am most concerned about my kids. Moving to another state in the middle of the school year is going to be hard enough but they love their schools here and I want to make sure they will like the new one. From what I can gauge by the district web page they excel academically but can anyone give me any personal opinions. Can anyone tell me if this area in Glendale is safe and (hopefully) pleasant. Thanks so much for your help.

I don't know that apartment building, but Arrowhead is a tidy, safe, affluent, desireable part of Phoenix area. There is mucho shopping with a full-scale mall right there. If the schools are "excelling or highly performing" it means that they have primarily an english-speaking student body and parents who take an interest in the schools. To me it sounds like you will be in an excellent neighborhood.

As for the kids, everyone here is from somewhere else and new kids come into school all the time. It's nothing like small towns where the kids have known each for years. They will quickly make new friends. It's a lot harder for adults to connect here.

Yes, I agree, Arrowhead is a very desireable area. We lived in that part of town from '97 through '05. My kids went through elementary school and junior high there. Contrary to what many think of the Arizona public education system, almost all of my kids teachers really seemed to care.

Yes, Arrowhead is a great place to live. I live just a few miles away from there. I was driving through there just the other day and was really thinking I made the mistake of not buying a house over there (I almost did but chose a different house just outside). I love the big houses in Arrowhead Ranch.

Default Apts

I recently moved from that apt building. My neighbor on both sides of me had their cars stole within one week of each other. the cops are at the complex quite frequently and the office will not tell you why or notify the tenants of any crime problems so ask your neighbors. I really liked my neighbor and they were pretty quite when I lived on the 2nd floor. At first I lived on the 1st floor and heard my neighbor all the time, I had to move since he set the apt on fire and I had extensive water damage (he had no renters insurance- get some). If you live facing the mall prepare yourself for midnight drag racing and tire screeching parties. Also the gates are usually broken and open to all (drive thru and walking ones). The maintenance was great and the location is good too. Not a huge problem but the car theft and vandalism worried me, otherwise pretty safe.
