That proves he is more of a politician than a law enforcer.

He is running all those ads because of all the controversy that he created himself, he is worried about being defeated.

But he will almost certainly win another term because his opponent Penzone hasn't put out any TV spots explaining why he would be the better sheriff.

I will vote for Penzone anyway because I've had it up to my ears with Arpaio, but it doesn't seem like Penzone would be very strong based on how he isn't countering any of Arpaio's many TV spots.

Hate to admit it but I think we're stuck with the blowhard-in-chief for another four years or till death do him part.
The thing is...ANY elected official is a politician and they have to run ads and generate revenue for their campaigns.

He will win, anyone who says different hasn't been looking at the polls where Arpaio still has a commanding lead over Penzone. I just can't see Penzone being able to amass the support or war chest that Arpaio can; for a county sheriff to have over $4 million in campaign contributions is absolutely amazing. No matter what side of the aisle you fall, having that large of a war chest is usually reserved for Senators and Governors than county politicians.

I really like Arpaio both as a sheriff and a person; met him a few times and he's a great guy to talk to. Reminds me of my father- very blunt, very opinionated, and very loud. He's the Donald Trump of county sheriffs. I donate a set amount to local candidates every few years and Arpaio has always been on my contribution list.

I basically voted straight ticket for the Democratic party (with the exception of the Democrat running for US congress). I almost never vote straight ticket.
My wife and I work in the travel & tourism industry, and the Republicans in this state have been horrible for our industry over the past 3-4 years.
The propositions were pretty easy. I just looked at the voter guide to see which way the Governor or Russell Pearce were voting and did the opposite.

The only Republican I would vote for is our city councilman, because he's not a nutjob who tries to get on national TV every night and he actually gets some stuff done in our district.

I once would have voted for Jeff Flake, but he dumped all of his moderate positions in this race and Carmona just has such an amazing personal resume.

And that's because the overwhelming majority of it comes from out of state, from organizations and people that haven't had to foot the bill for the way he's done, and hasn't done, his job.

If Arpaio can raise millions of dollars from out-of-state donors, more power to him! I see no problem with Arpaio receiving outsider support at all.

I'm a big fan of Sheriff Joe, I generally think he's one of the best political forces in Maricopa county. Obviously he has numerous opponents, but his supporters turn out at the polls in huge numbers and he'll get reelected until he decides to retire.

I'm not crazy about any state/local candidate getting money from outside the state. I think Citizens United is one of the biggest blunders in Supreme Court history. Just my opinion.

I get that you are a big fan of Sheriff Joe. I accept that there's a lot of them out there. More and more people, though, are a bit tired of his schtick at the expense of getting the job done. Ask the victims in that child molesting case that ended in a mistrial last month largely because of the Sheriff's Office dropping the ball on it, (and hundreds of other cases), how they think the Sheriff has been doing at his WHOLE job, not just the part that gets him the most attention.

I agree. I think money for use in a local campaign for local office should only come from local backers. The candidates are not running for a national office, so why should they get support from someone who doesn't even live here?

I got tired of Obama when he was running in the 2008 elections. You could not pay me a million bucks to vote for somebody with the name Barack Hussein Obama, or anyone with the sorry record he has in over 3 and a half years in office. Even Bill Clinton would have been a better candidate than Obama.

It may sound harsh, but if he's reelected, it's reality (we are all, after all, "day to day" ) . He's not likely to retire, he's past his 80th birthday as it is.
