Voters reject overrides in GPS, Higley

While the two overrides for the Higley Unified School district (as well as the Gilbert Public Schools override) have failed, the lease extension that authorizes the construction of two new middle schools has passed. I think the lease authorization to build middle schools is very important to the district, since it will make the district more attractive to homeowners.

Despite getting an "A" rating from AZED for two straight years, many homeowners still fail to realize that the Higley Unified School District is quite competitive with the Chandler and Gilbert districts in terms of academic performance. Hopefully these middle schools can make the district more attractive to homeowners and homebuyers.

Here at the Freeman Farms (north of Ocotillo), even though we are officially within the boundary of the Higley Unified School District, our community has an agreement with the Chandler Unified School District where students can legally attend schools in either district, and as a result, many students in our neighborhood attend schools in the Chandler district. The newer part of Freeman Farms (south of Ocotillo) is officially within the Chandler district, but students can also legally attend schools in either district.
