I am thinking of moving to the Phoenix area, within 30 mins to Scottsdale. My question is, are there many opportunities to meet new people if I don't know anyone there? I am in my early 30's so would probably stay out of the Tempe area to meet new friends as I hear that's a college town.
Thanks!

Well, first, yes, there's a university in Tempe. I lived here when I was in my 30's... and 40's... and. But outside the immediate University area, it's a very lovely suburb with a high quality of life and a diverse population in every way including age. We have a great parks, recreation and library department, with all sorts of special interest classes, which are but one way to meet people you have things in common with.

Volunteer activities abound in a large metro area like this, and are a great way to meet people in a large metro area, as are meetup groups, classes of all kinds, and through your work. Church is another option if you are interested.

People in the Phoenix area are generally open and friendly-it seems to be a good place to make friends- you can meet people at various clubs at meetup.com, or maybe a college alumni club or a fan club like say Packers fans in the phoenix area, etc

Tempe's a lot bigger and more diverse than most people think, especially if you're away from ASU. I've been looking at places outside of Tempe recently, but I think I like it here too much to move.

Sue, the number one, most important single question about where to live in phoenix is this:

WHERE WILL YOU BE WORKING?

I moved to Chandler about a month ago and I work in downtown Phoenix. I have family here so I've been lucky to meet new people through them, but all in all this is a huge city with tons of people from all walks of life. It's kind of hard to meet people since you won't be running into the same people over and over, but there are options. Church is one. Or take a wine tasting class. Join a book club, or a running club. Etc, etc, etc....good luck!

Thanks everyone for your input. I appreciate it!

Jkgourmet, I have no idea where my job would be, I was just wanting some input from the locals.
