Currrently in Charlotte looking to move to Phoenix (if house ever sells). Interested in knowing where the majority of people go to work out at. In Charlotte, most people are members of the local YMCA. We have a few other gyms here, like Gold's and Anytime Fitness...but most people join the Y for the classes, flexible hours, and etc. Monthly membership fee is $65.00. Personally I think that is little pricey...maybe Im being cheap...but was wondering what the going rate was for monthly membership fee for the YMCA's in Phoenix?

Lotta places. Golds, Planet Fitness, Ballys, LA Fitness. I've noticed LA Fitness has opened a couple of new locations in Central Phoenix. The local community colleges have reasonable rates on their fitness centers. I would say wait til you're here then shop around.

YMCA is kind of expensive - If I remember correctly I think they quoted me $58/month. Right now I go to Gold's Gym "Elite" (Downtown PHX), and that's only $20/month. Golds gym in all other Valley locations is $10/month. I used to go to 24 Hr fitness and that is $28/month or cheaper if you pre-pay for 2 or 3 years up front; and L.A. Fitness has similar prices to those. I'm kind of a gym rat so I've been to a lot of them around the valley, feel free to ask if you have any other specific questions.

Hey Westcoastbabe, Lifetime Fitness is also another large gym out here. Surprised no one mentioned them and it may be that they might be a little more expensive. There are lots of Y's out here, but LA Fitness may be one of the most frequented gyms here. There was also a gym specifically geared toward women named "Curves".
