I am thinking about doing a nice backyard. Right now my yard is nothing but rocks, not a single plant. My house lot is just over 16,000 sq ft, normal square shaped, with lots of room on both sides of the house and an equivalent amount of space directly behind. I have RV gates on both sides- do you think the contractor will need to break the wall to get equipment back there or will the RV gates be big enough?

Ok, so I was looking at the homes in my neighborhood on real estate websites (just checking previous sale prices) and found this backyard- basically my dream backyard. We have similar shape yards. I love the stack stone on the pool and the raised wall, the spa, outdoor kitchen, the huge covered ramada, putting green (but i want fake grass), the fountain, all the landscape, the pavers, it's just the whole package.

Right now I am just thinking, and I want to have a budget in mind before I have a professional come out. Can anyone help me estimate how much it would cost to replicate this yard?

Thanks!

This is a little private area off the master bathroom

Mmm... lets see: pool w/waterfall, raised spa, deck, outdoor kitchen, water feature, fireplace, large pergola, retention walls capped with either slate or flagstone, stucco walls, pavers everywhere, putting green with artificial turf, a bit of rock and some plants. Did I miss something?

I'd say about 300,000 minimum, but it depends on who does it. Remember you get what you pay for.

Good news is the contractor won't have to tear down the block fence. The RV gates will allow plenty of room for a bobcat, forklift, etc.

BTW, it's beautiful!!

Depends who does it. You could get it done for around 150,000 if you contracted it yourself. Are you handy?
Nice yard, but I see some slope problems during the monsoon.

150K all day long.....pool and deck will be 1/2 that alone.

Nice looking but don't like the prison wall in the back, it is bound to get really hot back there with no breeze and all that stone baking in the sun (radiating heat like a brick oven)

Wouldn't hazard a guess. More than you could ever recover when you sell, or get credit for in an appraisal, I suspect.

I remember your thread about looking for a home. Where did you end up buying?

That's a great looking yard but wow it must be on a steep hill to have that sort of retaining wall on one side...that side fence along with the retaining wall looks to be 15+ feet tall!

RV gates will be plenty of room for your install. My installer got his bobcat and his one man back hoe in through a standard gate. Your gates should allow a larger piece of equipment in and hopefully make the job go faster.

I'm dying to know where this home is located and what it sold for/is listed for.

My parents did something very similar to their backyard: pergola, built in kitchen, spa, new stone retaining walls around the pool, new patio, etc. Their yard is much bigger, however they kept the existing pool and just redid the surrounding concrete. So it kind of evens out. They spent upwards of $150K, but my mom also works in new home sales and I'm sure she was able to call in a few favors and get some good deals. So $150K contracting it yourself seems doable, but if not I would say probably $170K+
