After almost a year of looking and 6 trips to Phoenix we finally settled on an area that we believe will suit us best and help family flourish. Arrowhead in Glendale. Great schools, beautiful homes and down to earth people.
We're heading out after the school year ends on east coast and looking t homes now. The west valley is beautiful and we really like that we're less than 30 minutes away from Lake Pleasant!
Anything I am overlooking?

my friend has lived in Glendale for over 5yrs, he likes it, when we visited from Ma, he showed us around the town and was hoping we would look to buy there.
However i was not impressed w Glendale, just seemed run down. After many visits and a visit again 2 weeks ago were focused on Gilbert,Chandler,Mesa in that order as we also want to b fairly lose to Scotsdale. Although we dont have kids gilbert n chandler are suppose to have the best school school systems in the valley which is great for home value n selling.

I don't know what part of Glendale your friend lives in but the Arrowhead area of Glendale is not like the run down areas further south.

Fully agree with HX_Guy...
We wasted almost a full week looking around Gilbert and Chandler as we thought it was "the place to be". The sense of relief when we drove to the North west/central area was overwhelming... we couldn't believe we had wasted so much of our time looking in Gilbert and Chandler.

Maybe it was the limited housing budget that we were working from, but in our price range the neighborhoods in the SE were surrounded by sketchy areas that were very visually unappealing.

The Arrowhead area was the first area that we actually felt like we could live... we bought a tiny bit north and a bit east of there... but still love Arrowhead, there just wasn't a house for us in that particular area at the particular time we were looking.

Also... schools in the area are equally as good (maybe better in some cases) as some of the districts in Gilbert/Chandler.

The hockey blumder alone makes Phoenix a better choice. Arrowhead is nice, though.

Ho Hum on the hockey.

Good Choice! We hike in Thunderbird quite often. Love the area.

Area wise, Glendale is a massive city. Same with Mesa. There is no shortage of run down areas in Mesa. On the flip side, Mesa has many wonderful areas as well. Glendale's crown jewel is the Arrowhead region and it flows into some other nice parts on the west side.
