People turn out of streets not even looking. This city is way over populated ! Its dry, barely any green. Nothing fun to do except go to malls. Its way too hot to do anything outdoors during the day, ive heard about people dying from the heat. Absolutely scary public transportation . Ive had men try to convince me to have sex with them while im waiting for the bus. men stare down women like theyve never seen a woman in their life !good luck trying to walk down the street without getting honked at or some creep trying to offer you a ride, although I'm sure this happens everywhere, it's just really bad here. Traffic is horrible, I've been almost run into a million times and people don't know how to use their turn signals or even bother looking in their mirrors, and people love to slam on their breaks for no reason! I'm always indoors because there's nothing to enjoy when it's this hot. even living in Las Vegas is better than this!! Las Vegas has better schools and not a big population and not much more cost of living vs here in Phoenix.
Zombie thread. First your post has nothing to do with Downtown Phoenix which it light years better then just 5 years ago. It's work, live, and play. Your driving must be you, because I don't encounter anything like that daily. Sometimes you just have to look in the mirror. You hate the heat but Las Vegas is better? My Sister lives in Vegas and outside of the casinos the place is a dump. The traffic here isn't even remotely as bad as CA or back East. There is a ton of things to do here, but you have to get out of your house and explore. Fun doesn't come to you, you have to get out and find it.

Thanks for typing that all out...I wanted to tell this idiot the same thing but didn't feel like taking the time to compose an articulate response.

Came across this thread and thought it was great! Especially the map showing the good and not so good areas. I am in the process now of moving to downtown from Mesa and wondering what apts people prefer, pros and cons, safer areas like if the map here has changed much . Want to be able to walk to most things like coffee runs, restarants, etc
Thanks so much

I think that map is pretty accurate still. And what's your price point? If you have a high price point I would recommend 44 Monroe.

The "box" is a great area to look into for walkability. Plenty of places inside Garfield Historic District, Eastlake, South Phoenix, and of course, Roosevelt Row and Downtown that are in walking distance and have a lot of character.

I would look into Roosevelt Row and the Lower Grand Avenue corridor (east of 15th avenue) as eccentric neighborhoods with restaurants and coffee shops. Both are arts districts and are close to the "true" Downtown for a lot of events. Roosevelt Row is a lot pricier than Grand, but Grand is ripe for gentrification and probably will get gentrified in the upcoming years.

I'd stay north of Lincoln street ideally when looking in Downtown. The train tracks make a pretty good boundary too, with the exception of parts of the Warehouse District.

I love downtown during Xmas. The ice rink!!!! Downtown gets very busy during events and weekend nights. It's not that much of continuous bustle but it is sure rising up. Can't say that about many other downtowns in usa

I've always considered downtown as between the 7's, south of the 10 and north of the tracks' but that's just me. I lived in roosevelt for 4 years and really enjoyed it. I wouldn't call it dangerous but since they closed the homeless shelters it has gotten markedly worse. Most homeless won't bother you but at the complex I used to live at 6'th ave and fillmore there have been some violent homeless incidents.

Agree on the north and south borders, but east-west I consider it between 16th St and 19th Ave
