I am going to relocate to phoenix area with office location at Chandler or Deer valey
I am flexible to get job location either at chandler or Deer valley. I have shortlisted Gilbert , Scottsdale and Chandler. Which one is the best. I love enjoying time with my family. No Nightlife, partying and not even social drinking. Which place should i choose from the list. Please suggest

What else is important to you besides time with family and not drinking? What's your budget?

Well Chandler and the Deer Valley Area (it's not it's own city just an area of Phoenix) are like 20 miles apart or more depending how far south and east in Chandler you are. If you're looking for a great family friendly area then it's hard to beat Chandler but Deer Valley has family oriented areas as well. It all really comes down to your job relocation and personal preference. In a nutshell:

Deer Valley: Lies on the northern outskirts of the city. Has older and newer areas. Decent schools. Close to Lake Pleasant and closer to the high country when you want to head up north to the mountains. Has all of your day to day shopping.

Chandler: Lies the southeast valley. Nice family suburbia type of city with great schools, sport leagues, etc. It's a pretty well educated city and has a high tech presence (Intel&Microship have sites in the city). Also has a nice mall and new outlet mall that just opened up. Typical suburban city though with everything you need right there.

Gilbert: Lies just east of Chandler (you seriously can't tell the two apart). Very suburban family suburbia with great schools that's a little far out but an easy drive to Chandler if you end up working there. It's basically the same as Chandler. Cookie cutter houses and a walmart and target every 2 miles....typical suburbia. You will here people say Gilbert is full of Mormons and blah blah blah but the statistics prove otherwise. It's a just a conservative family oriented town and many people have nothing but good things to say about it.

Scottsdale: A very nice city just north east of Phoenix. It is a wealthy upper middle class/upper class city for the most part however there are regular middle class folks residing there as well. Scottsdale is known nationally for it's awesome resorts and golf courses as well as it's nightlife(which you aren't looking for). 5 star restaurants and great shopping. It also has great schools both public and private. Keep in mind though it isnt cheap to live there. Judging by your post you probably wouldn't enjoy Scottsdale as much as the other more family oriented areas.

From your prior post of having a choice of living in The Bay Area with $140,000 a year salary to living here with a $120,000 a year salary, you have told us you have 3 kids, a wife who has no career, therefore you are the sole breadwinner.

You have made your decision to take the Phoenix job which is probably best as you don't have career couple income.

You basically have a stay at home wife and a high tech career which allows you to be the sole earner. You are not looking to buy a home at this time based on you prior thread comparing the Bay Area to Phoenix.

I am confused about the 2 bedrooms. Do you want an apartment with one bedroom for you and your wife, and another for all three children to share? or do you want to rent a house such as a 4 bedroom house, where each child has their own room?

What is your rent budget?

I would say Chandler would be best. Work in Chandler and live in Chandler. No point in going anywhere else. Why live in Gilbert if you work in Chandler? Scottsdale is a more upscale city, and with your salary and simple lifestyle, it doesn't sound like it would be worth it to you to pay more to live in a city that is more upscale and expensive, with one income. Chandler is closer to the interstate as well.
